As should be true for most young people, the future is an intimidating concept. I think it's totally bogus for the teachers to force their students to decide on a career when they are sixteen and can't even use the bathroom with permission. That being said, it is good to have at least an idea about your future, just maybe not the entire thing planned to the T. One of the broadest majors is the medical field. You really can't go wrong there because you can take it in any direction you see fit. The medical field also pays pretty well, so that's a bonus. Just picking a major will definitely help out along the way because it gives you wiggle room and is much less stressful. As freaky is the future is, at least be a little prepared for something. The medical field is really large. You could go into surgery or nursing. You can travel or stay at one hospital. It even includes the receptionists. As long as it has something to do with the word 'medic,' your in! Entering into a large field allows you many opportunities and the chance to really make up your mind. You can major in various different things. As stated byArizona State University, "Students should choose a major based on their interests. At ASU a large majority of students who went on to medical schools have majored in biology, chemistry, psychology, physics and engineering. However, it is not unusual for someone who majors in political science, English literature, sociology or a nonscience field to be accepted" Sometimes the medical field is limited in our minds to doctors and nurses. It's important to understand how wrong that is. While those things are included, there is a ton more jobs in the field, ranging from well known to "that's a thing?" So keep an open mind when it comes to choosing the major of your life. There is probably more to it than what meets the eye. As much as the topic is avoided, money is a big issue. We're human, and humans are greedy creatures. Money gets us things and things define who we are, unfortunately. Most job offers in the medical field insist you have at least four years of college, and for many of the positions need you to have more. At the time, it may seem like you're wasting you life, but in the end, it'll be well worth it. I'm fairly certain that every job in the medical field pays pretty darn well. I'm not going to throw numbers out their solely because it varies from job to job. Regardless, if you are a greedy human, like us all, go into the medical field. It's not like doctors and nurses get paid for doing nothing. Let's be real. They surround themselves with sick people every single day. And surgeons? Yeah, they're sticking their hands inside your body to save your life! So the money they make is well earned. Keep that in mind. Finally, why are we picking our future jobs when we're so immature? Expand outward with me for a moment. Life seems short, but it also seems to go on forever. And what are we building up to? Retirement. In order to get there, we have to take it one step at a time. Skip a step, you fall into an abyss of darkness, and it's none too simple to get back out. Before picking your 'dream job' that you probably won't get, pick your major. This allows you to take your time, relieving some of the stress of college. It also gives you wiggle room as far as your future goes. You are introduced to jobs that maybe you never considered. It just broadens your horizons and expands your perspective. Take a deep breath. The future isn't as bad as it seems. All you need is new perspective. Don't pick out an occupation just yet if you're not ready. Pick your major. The medical field is a very appealing option, especially to those unsure about their future. It has a really broad spectrum of options as far as jobs go. Also, it pays well, and don't pretend that's not a good thing! If you know you don't belong in the medical field, don't fret! Just pick a major. It gives you room to decide and to expand your mind. There are people who just don't feel like their cut out for college, and that's just fine! Go wherever you feel you need to be, because that's the only place you'll really be happy. |
